In Mongolia, an ambitious plan to walk the Old Silk Road with camels set out from Mongolia in November 2017. Steppes to the West is an epic 12,000 kilometre plus journey – an attempt to journey with camels from the steppes of Mongolia to Europe and the UK.
The trek will take 3 years to complete. Both camels and humans face numerous obstacles including temperature extremes, dust, rain, snow and storms, and a variety of road conditions such as gravel, tar and rocky terrain.
This will be challenging and sometimes daunting for the unshod four-legged, two-humped animals and their handlers.
Many months of planning included microchipping the 2-hump Bactrian camels – and SwissPlusiD was there to provide the microchips for implanting.
A high priority for a camel microchip was it was required to be robust, reliable and thoroughly tested to make sure they would last the distance from the heat of a desert to -47C).
All good to go!
All SwissPlusiD microchips are heat, shock and pressure tested to make sure they don’t fail in the harshest of conditions.
Pictures show local veterinarians implanting one of the trek camels and then with the help of a scanner and a kiwi vet, Andrew, make sure they are all working. All good to go!!
